An interesting time to be born

Updated: Oct 23, 2021

The expression “may you live in interesting times” has lost its irony over the last year and a half. Can we even remember what life was like when the times were not interesting? It has certainly been an interesting time to start a new community organization – especially one devoted to bringing people together! But here at Story House, we’ve been keeping our chins up and churning away with our little duck feet. We’ve had some lovely outdoor events with community partners and we’ve forged exciting new relationships with people and organizations – including an informal agreement with the Community School of Music and Arts to share their space this winter. But like everyone else, we’re playing it safe with indoor in-person events. We’ve postponed the series “Breaking Our Silence: Storytelling for Mental Health,” a collaborative project we've organized with the National Alliance on Mental Illness Finger Lakes, Cinemapolis, master storyteller Regi Carpenter, puppeteer Scott Hitz, Civic Ensemble, the Ithaca High School Choir, theater director Rachel Lampert, and others. But stay tuned for news about the launch of the Ithaca Bar Choir (where you can learn a song and sing it with friends and strangers), Ithaca Story Circle (where spoken word enthusiasts come to gather), the Listening Room (where you can hear and discuss great audio stories), a local comedy series, the Women+s Playwriting Workshop, and more. Which is to say… things are about to get interesting!
